Yahya Thabit [pronounced YahH-ya] is an experienced litigator who has a knack for identifying creative solutions to complex problems. Thabit primarily practices in the areas of civil litigation, contract law, and administrative law. He represents and advises clients in an array of areas, including business litigation, contract disputes, and administrative proceedings. Thabit's commitment to his clients and the legal system has landed him on the "Super Lawyer's Rising Stars' list for four consecutive years (2019-2022), a distinction earned by only 2% of all attorneys licensed to practice in Maryland.
Thabit offers outside general counsel to information technology companies, provides legal services to businesses, and advises individuals on business matters. His clients rely on him to draft, review, and negotiate numerous types of contracts to safeguard their interests in commercial and business transactions. Contract types include, but are not limited to, master service agreements, subcontract agreements, vendor agreements, licensing agreements, employment agreements, and non-disclosure agreements. He also helps clients resolve various contract disputes, including non-compete and non-solicitation disputes.
Thabit was previously a partner at a full-service law firm with multiple offices in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, as well as internationally in India. In that capacity, he participated in a range of civil litigation matters and filed suits for breach of contract, summary judgment, and preliminary injunctive relief. Thabit appears in state court on the circuit and appellate levels, as well as federal courts before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) where he continues to provide pro bono and low bono representation for indigent immigrants and minor children seeking legal relief on humanitarian grounds.
Thabit is also experienced in administrative proceedings representing clients in employment disciplinary matters. Similarly, he helps clients contest negative determinations on employee suitability relating to background checks conducted by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for federal government agencies such as the Social Security Administration (SSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Thabit served as judicial law clerk in the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland, where he gained significant exposure to judiciary and court operations. Thabit received a Master of Professional Studies degree in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University, where he focused his studies on the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement. He received his J.D. from University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, one of only six Historically Black College and University (HBCU) law schools in the United States, and served as Moot Court Chair for the Black Law Students’ Association. Thabit was selected as a Teaching Assistant in the legal writing department and participated in legal clinics where he dedicated more than 1,000 hours advising non-profits, small businesses, and social entrepreneurs on matters relating to business and transaction law. Thabit was awarded the distinguished Joseph L. Rauh Jr., Top Clinic Performer Scholar following his second year of law school. He graduated with a B.A. Honors in Political Science and Law from York University in Toronto, Canada.
